TREND makes a splash in Architectural Record

Les Bains des Docks

Les bains des docks, located in historic Le Havre, France, is the first phase of the redevelopment of an industrial harbor along the English Channel.  Architect Jean Nouvel whose projects “Transform the Landscapes in which they are built”, range from concert halls to collective housing.

This public project is particularly devoted to the historic preservation, economic revitalization, and environmental responsibility of this seafaring region.  In support of the intent, Architectural Record states “Miraculously missing are the familiar traits of public pools—booming echoes; reeking chlorine; and grungy, windowless, institutional locker rooms. Instead, Nouvel took poetic inspiration from natural lagoons and Roman baths, offering a myriad ways to experience water.”  In addition to a recreational pool, Les bains boasts an aqueous spa and a dry cardio-fitness room.

Highlighting the tile, the use of the TREND Vitreo mosaics reinforces the clean white translucent surfaces intended to reflect the shadows of users that animate the space. TREND was also chosen to support the environmental initiatives and high performance nature of high traffic use and year round operation.
