SpecCeramics Supplies Porcelain Stone Products for the Hilton Financial District HotelSpecCeramics Inc., industry leaders of providing high-quality stone products, supplied Gensler Architects with 14,000 square feet of Caesar Quality Quartz porcelain stone to complete a $45 million Hilton Hotel transformation in San Francisco’s Financial District.

With all of the available options for stone selection, SpecCeramics found the solution in a beige-like Quarzite di Barge porcelain stone that paves the stairs of the entryway into the hotel lobby for a truly modern approach to the traditional red carpet welcoming.

“Gensler Architects, one of the largest architectural firms in the country, liked the natural look of the stone and that they could make a pattern out of the different tile sizes,” said Bob Greer of SpecCeramics. “The texture of the Caesar Quality Quartz made it usable on the floors and walls because it is not too smooth or slippery.”

Gensler Architects utilized every available size, ranging from 24” x 24” to 12” x 12”, spread throughout the floor in a completely unique, alternating pattern. The floor was installed by sporadically interweaving large format tiles into an angular sequence of smaller rectangular tiles. Installers from KZ Tile Company applied a liquid waterproofing membrane to the cement substrate in the wet areas of the hotel restrooms and used a polymer modified thin set to adhere the tiles.
