Affectionately dubbed the IW Club, the new clubhouse which will be the centerpiece of the Indian Wells community also is slated for a January opening. This 53,000 square-foot Douglas Fredrickson-designed edifice will include a golf shop, sports bar and grill as well as other dining venues, meeting space and a stunning lobby.
It's the second hotel for the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, which bought downtown Palm Springs' 230-room Spa Hotel in 1992. The tribe has discussed plans eventually to demolish that hotel and turn it into a 10-story, 400-room resort.
Henry Segestrom said he was “delighted” about the addition of OCMA,
which he called a “phenomenal institution” He added that the Segerstrom
Center will stop expanding for a while after the new museum is built.
The one bright spot continues to be the institutional sector with
continued positive conditions for construction projects such as
schools, hospitals and government buildings.
CIRM chairman Robert Klein described it as “one of the largest
building programs ever dedicated to a new field of medical science.”
The funds were distributed among 12 institutions that contributed, in
total, an extra $560 million.
